Our Neighbors' Interests Take Priority
From selecting the right location to building with responsible design in mind, AMD works hard to offer the Austin community long-term benefits. After undergoing a comprehensive site selection process involving input from business, community and neighborhood leaders, and in considering that nearly 60 percent of local AMD employees live within 10 miles of the area, AMD selected a 58-acre parcel at the corner of Southwest Parkway and William Cannon Drive in Austin, Texas.
AMD consulted architects, ecologists, geologists, green building specialists, environmentalists, traffic analysts and other experts to develop a campus that benefits AMD and the surrounding neighborhoods. Numerous community leaders and organizations, including the Oak Hill Association of Neighborhoods, and the Oak Hill Business and Professional Association have pledged their support and welcome AMD to the community.
AMD’s recently announced $1.5 million contribution to protect open space in Central Texas helps preserve critical Hill Country land for the benefit of generations to come. The money is the first grant of AMD’s $3 million pledge to preserve open space.
On October 18, 2006, Austin Mayor Will Wynn, Councilmember Lee Leffingwell and representatives from the Hill Country Conservancy (HCC) and the Trust for Public Land (TPL) stood with AMD to announce the contribution, supporting two initiatives:
- an $800,000 contribution to HCC designed to conserve large tracts of land with ecological and historical significance, and create recreational opportunities
- a $700,000 contribution to TPL’s Texas Heritage Land Fund designed to permanently preserve environmentally-sensitive land in the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone and to support TPL’s Parks for People program in Central Texas. Thanks to individuals and corporations such as AMD who have supported TPL’s work in Central Texas over the past year, TPL announced on February 20 that it would donate a 44-acre parcel of land to the City of Austin to enhance the Barton Creek Wilderness Park, located in the Gaines Ranch area south of Highway 360 and just west of MoPac.
